Shamir hits hard on new stripped-back track "Straight Boy"
"Straight Boy" is the latest song from Shamir's upcoming third album Revelations, which is out next month.
Ryan Carpenter directs the visuals for the single, which follows lead cut "'90s Kids".
"'Straight Boy' is white washing and queer bating in media," says Shamir of the new song. "It's about how frustrating it was for me to have my whole identity picked apart at a young age just to see straight white men use it as an aesthetic choice. The video, quite unequivocally depicts the process of white washing and the repudiation of the queer and people of color who pioneered."
New album Revelations - inspired by "outside music, country, and punk" - will follow up April's surprise Hope LP and 2015 XL Recordings debut Ratchet.
