Second mysterious Boards of Canada 12” discovered
A second surprise 12” vinyl release by Boards of Canada has been found, this time in London.
In case you’re not familiar with this story, here’s a quick summation: So, for Record Store Day 2013 Boards of Canada released an untitled 12” via Warp. At least one lucky attendee grabbed a copy in New York. The unnamed release is apparently 20 seconds of eerie music with a robotic voice reciting a series of numerals. The cover of the 12” featured “—— / —— / —— / XXXXXX / —— / ——,” essentially forcing speculation that it’s one in a series.
Well, that might be true, as a second has since been discovered at Rough Trade. They posted a photo (seen above) of the vinyl as proof, as well the cover art, on twitter. Regarding the news of the second, Pitchfork is quick to note “ that the cover art looks identical to the single found in NYC, so until there’s audio confirmation otherwise, it very may well be another copy of the same single.”
The release has led many to speculate about a new album release forthcoming. More on that as it develops.
