Savages play storming sunset show at End of the Road
The Woods Stage at End of the Road Festival hosted a fierce set from Savages earlier this evening.
The band arrived as light finally broke through oppressive clouds, to a roar of feedback and pounding drums.
The set, while all simple white lights and black clothing, was as aggressive as it was loud. "Hello End of the Road, nice to see you,"said vocalist Jehnny Beth, before ripping through 'Sad Person'.
There was enormous power in their sound, lapped up by the moving crowd. "It's always a pleasure to come here," she continued, adding to the recurring theme of bands loving this festival as much as the
crowd.
The show peaked as Jehnny Beth spoke of the honour of playing a stage on which they had once seen Patti Smith, before striding out, howling, over the crowd, supported by hundreds of hands at her shins. The sound and atmosphere were raw and believable, feeling more like watching The Birthday Party in a dive bar than an evening set at an indie festival.
