Saint Etienne announce new album with lead cut "Pond House"
Saint Etienne are back with news of their upcoming album I’ve Been Trying To Tell You, and have unveiled "Pond House" as the first taster of the album.
"Pond House" marks the trio's first outing of the year, following 2019's "Saturday Boy", and arrives alongside news of their I've Been Trying To Tell You album.
I've Been Trying To Tell You will follow the group's 2017 album Home Counties, and was largely created from samples from the years 1997-2001. It also marks the first album where Saint Etienne didn't record together in a studio; instead they recorded remotely from Hove, Oxford and Bradford with help from film and TV composer Gus Bousfield, who contributes to two tracks on the record.
Sarah Cracknell says, "It's the first sample driven album we’ve made since So Tough and it’s been a really refreshing experience, such fun! It’s both dreamy and atmospheric, late summer sounds."
Bob Stanley continues, "To me it’s about optimism, and the late nineties and how memory is an unreliable narrator. Pete and Gus have done a properly amazing production job. I think it sounds gorgeous."
Pete Wiggs adds, "We've really pulled apart and dived deep into the samples; the concept and each of our interpretations of it have made this a very special sounding album, we hope you think so too."
The group's new album will also be accompanied by a film directed by photographer/filmmaker Alasdair Mclellan. The film, which has the same title as the album, will premiere at NFT1 at BFI Southbank on 3 September. Check out the trailer below.
