RYD strips back own track "I See U" for ambient airport version
North London's Ryan Downie, aka RYD, shares an ambient, airport version of his own track "I See U".
Producer and songwriter revealed his "I See U" track back in September, and has today revealed a minimalist version of his single, inspired by Brian Eno's Music For Airports record.
Speaking about the original meaning behind "I See U", RYD explains, ""I See U" is about finding that someone who understands you and helps you reconnect with yourself. This is one of my m18 ore optimistic songs, but it's tinged with vulnerability and dependence which always makes me feel uneasy."
RYD also expanded on his airport version of the track, "One of my biggest influences moving into ambient music was the Music For Airports record by Brian Eno. I fell in love with the space it took me to and the tranquility. This gave me the inspiration to rework my tunes into 'Airport Versions' to pay tribute to the record that started it all and a sound I could only dream to recreate."
The original "I See U" features on RYD's upcoming self-titled debut record, which Downie made from home. "Obviously home is where you're most comfortable, so I guess I can open up as much as I want, or as little as I want, in the privacy of my own home. It is a good place to write. To go in certain places."
RYD's self-titled debut album is "about heartbreak, and people being deceitful, I guess. It's about me, most of the time. It's about relationships I've had with people, and things that have happened that have affected me emotionally. It isn't so much characters, but what I've experienced."
