Rina Sawayama empowers individuality on new track "Flicker"
London-based Rina Sawayama returns with a Clarence Clarity-produced new track "Flicker".
Rina Sawayama returned in August with the syrupy-sweet "Cherry", and has today followed it up with "Flicker", a track that cements the importance of being individual.
"Flicker" was co-written by the London artist and frequent collaborator Clarence Clarity, who also produced tha track, and revealed new single "Del Rey Dreamhouse" last week.
Speaking about the new offering, Sawayama explains, "The first day of reception year at school my teacher totally butchered my surname while calling out the register. I remember crying so hard and that was the first time I realised that I was different to all the others in class. When I was writing "Flicker" I was thinking how our name shapes our experience in our life and identities us in a deeper way than we realise. Whether it's a name that no one can say, or the frustration of being misgendered, or quite simply being misunderstood for who you truly are - this is a song for you  #theyaintus."
The rising pop musician also took to Twitter to expand on the importance of the track.
I wrote the lyrics and melody to this song in a couple hours, it was 1 of those magical moments as a songwriter when the whole song comes to u in stream of consciousness and BOOM three hours later with @clarenceclarity birthed Flicker #rinaflicker #theyaintus
