Revelators Sound System (MC Taylor and Cameron Ralston) announce debut album Revelators
Hiss Golden Messenger's MC Taylor and Cameron Ralston have announced Revelators, their debut album as Revelators Sound System, and have unveiled the lead single "George the Revelator".
"George the Revelator" is the first outing from Revelators, and was "initially composed on May 26th, 2020, the day after George Floyd was murdered by a police officer in Minneapolis, MN, and evolved into its final form in the months that followed."
The new song is teamed with a collaborative video by Moses Sun and Bill Jones for Moses Sun Studio. It was made using digital drawings by Sun, and was animated in modul8 by Jones. The video description adds that it was "made in one take in the VJ program with no edits."
The duo's debut album Revelators was recorded across 2020 and 2021 at MC Taylor's home in Durham, Norht Carolina and at Spacebomb Studios in Richmond, Virginia.
Ralston says of the record, "We only ever talked about what emotion we were going for. We never talked about gear or fidelity."
Taylor adds, "This record is about grief. Grief, and whatever comes after. We were looking for a way to communicate that musically."
10% of proceeds from sales of Revelators will be donated to Colin Kaepernick's Know Your Rights Camp.
