Record Store Day 2013 to reduce product by 10%
Record Store Day 2013 will produce 10% less special releases than in previous years, reports say.
Speaking to Music Week, UK organiser Spencer Hickman stated that the cause was shops not being able to cope with the production load.
Hickman said:
“Stores can’t cope, you can’t pay for it from a financial point of view because you’re buying all this stuff and then you’ve got to process it and get it out. I think a few labels got burnt, which is a good thing because then you strip it back.”
He also added that BBC 6 Music are planning a day of programming around the event.
Last year saw 230 shops sell 450 limited edition releases, with an overall boost of 50% from the year prior in vinyl alone. It was confirmed as the “most successful to date”.
The day, which aims to celebrate physical music with many special and limited-edition releases distributed especially for the event, will take place this year round on Saturday 20 April.
