Record Store Day 2013 album sales up 60% from previous year
Last weekend celebrated this year’s leg of international music shop love-fest Record Store Day. Now the sale figures are in and it looks to be the most successful year yet.
Music Week report that album sales on the day (Saturday 20 April) saw a 60% increase on the year prior, with the average customer spending around £45 on the day.
“Indie record shops pulled out all the stops once again to make Record Store Day UK a huge success,” said Record Store Day UK head Spencer Hickman on the feat. “They proved yet again indie stores are more than just shops – at their best they are a focus for the passion, the excitement, the stubborn belief in the power of great music which is the hallmark of the true music fan.”
It’s also been revealed that West London shop Rough Trade West broke the record for most sales per sq/ft. You can check out our photos from the day in our gallery here.
