Rapper sells mixtape for $100, Jay Z buys hundred copies
L.A rapper, Nipsey Hussle is bringing a new mixtape out. But instead of giving it away for free like many peers, he has instead placed a $100 price tag on it.
Crenshaw is Hussle’s eighth mixtape to date, following on from TMC:X-Tra Laps in February 2012.
“The reason I chose to charge $100 dollars each copy and only start with 1000 units is because I tailor making my music for those who are listening,” he recently told Rap Radar. “What that means is less fans that are better served.”
If you thought he’d have a hard time shifting all that extra stock then think again, because a certain person called Jay Z has already bought a hundred copies.
“I got a DM on Twitter from a respected hip-hop journalist and he was just like, ‘Hov respects the move, salute,’” Nipsey told MTV News earlier this week. “They sent us $10,000, we sent them 100 CDs. I didn’t get a chance to holla at Jay, but through his people he made it clear that he respects the movement and everything. I was humbled by it. I felt like it was a good risk, and it ended up working out.”
Pretty damn entrepreneurial, you have to admit.
