42-year-old rapper Fat Joe, best known for his 2001 hit with Ja Rule and Ashanti ‘What’s Luv?’, has been sentenced to four months in prison and fined $15,000 for failing to file tax returns on more than $3.3 million earned between 2007 and 2010.
Fat Joe, real name Joseph Cartegena, was set to face up to two years in prison after pleading guilty to the charges of tax evasion in December. However, his lawyers had asked for the sentence to be reduced due to a similar case last month was given a three-month prison sentence. The magistrate gave him credit for paying $718,000 back and for his charity work.
