Queen Kwong links with The Cure's Roger O'Donnell for new single "On The Run"
Queen Kwong, real name Carré Kwong Callaway, has released new single "On The Run" featuring The Cure's Roger O'Donnell, which is lifted from her upcoming album Couples Only.
"On The Run" follows Queen Kwong's February single "I Know Who Yoou Are", and sees her collaborate with Roger O’Donnell (The Cure), who plays keys and synths on the new song.
Callaway said of the new single, ""On The Run" is the song that inspired the record’s title, Couples Only. It’s a romantic, slow-dance-sounding song, but if you listen carefully, the lyrics are more realistic and self-aware. I spent a lot of my life confusing dramatic, whirlwind, fleeting romance with true love but they’re not the same thing. Mature, healthy, loving relationships can be quite boring, and even though that’s what I want, it’s also what I’ve always run from."
Couples Only will be Queen Kwong's third album, following 2018's Love Me to Death, and features contributions from Swans’ Kristof Hahn (lap steel) and Blood Red Shoes’ Laura-Mary Carter (backing vocals).
The recording process was entirely improvised by Callaway and producer Joe Cardamone, who spent three weeks creating one song a day, which resulted in the final 11 tracks on Queen Kwong's new album
