Ahh Acéphale do sign some gems don’t they? Hidden in amongst scattered Korallreven and Porcelain Raft releases, the New York based label put out Pure X’s debut record Pleasure this summer. A woozy, intoxicating album it seemed to have sprung from nowhere and crept into our collective consciousness overnight.
Taken from said full-length is ‘Surface’ – a hazy, almost world-weary number brimming with psychedelic bass lines, soft guitar howls and thin, whispery vocal refrains. An utterly enveloping listen, the song now has a brand new video. Direct by Malcolm Elijah, the smoky split-screen footage features live performance images of the Texan trio set alongside dancing figures and cult like rituals.
