Pop Smoke's manager agrees to change Virgil Abloh-designed album cover following backlash
The manager of the late Pop Smoke has agreed to change his debut album artwork which was designed by Virgil Abloh after fans reacted negatively.
The artwork for Pop Smoke's posthumous debut album was revealed yesterday (29 June), and was designed by Off-White designer Virgil Abloh.
Pop Smoke died aged 20 in February following a fatal home invasion in LA, and his album is due to arrive this Friday (3 July).
Virgil Abloh's design for Pop Smoke's album was criticised upon release, with many calling it "lazy". A petition was also launched to change the artwork, and has already gained over 18,000 signatures.
Steven Victor, head of the Victor Victor label imprint, revealed the artwork last night (29 June), writing, "You were always shootings for the stars and aiming for the moon. Everything we talked about is happening, the only thing is you’re not here in the flesh to see it all come together. You wanted Virgil to design your album cover and lead creative.. Virgil designed the album cover and led creative.. we love you and miss you more and more each day."
