Polydor Records spokesperson says label are "saddened" by RAYE's tweets about debut album
After RAYE took to Twitter yesterday (29 June) to reveal that she hasn't been "allowed to put out one album" despite signing a four-album deal way back in 2014, a spokesperson for Polydor Records has responded, and said the label are "saddened" by the tweets.
RAYE, who released her latest single "Call On Me" earlier this month, revealed on Twitter yesterday (29 June) that she has "albums on albums of music sat in folders collecting dust, songs I am now giving away to A list artists because I am still awaiting confirmation that I am good enough to release an album."
The singer/songwriter, who has worked on material for the likes of Beyoncé, Mabel, Little Mix, Ellie Goulding, and more, also wrote about how the label said she can do her debut album if "'Call On Me' does well", and continued, "I have been on a 4 ALBUM RECORD DEAL since 2014 !!! And haven’t been allowed to put out one album."
In another tweet, RAYE added, "I’ve done everything they asked me, I switched genres, I worked 7 days a week, ask anyone in the music game, they know. I’m done being a polite pop star. I want to make my album now, please that is all I want."
After receiving supportive responses from fellow artists including MNEK, Lauren Aquilina, Shura, Charli XCX, and more, a spokesperson for Polydor Records has responded to RAYE's tweets via NME. The spokesperson said, "We were saddened to read RAYE’s tweets last night and have reached out to her management team to discuss and offer our full support."
