Police increase security at Lollapalooza due to terrorist threats
If you thought annual alt-rock music festival Lollapalooza was engulfed by security this year then it was due to anti-terror tactics, as police have recently confirmed that threats from the global militant Islamist organization were the cause of increased security.
The Chi-town event that took place between August 2 and Augsut 4 saw increased bag searches, undercover police working on site and bomb-sniffing dogs in the city’s Grant Park. Chicago officials made clear that recent threats to US embassies abroad had led to the upscaling of security at the festival which was headlined by The Cure, The Killers and Mumford & Sons. Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said this during a press conference:
“Even though feel it’s focused on embassies abroad, with Lollapalooza here we had to take some extra steps”.Although no terrorist threats were reported at Lollapalooza 2013, Huffington Post reported that undercover officers made around 10 arrests on drug charges and 46 arrests on misdemeanour charges.
