Poliça and s t a r g a z e announce collaborative record, share 10-minute lead single
Poliça and s t a r g a z e are teaming up for collaborative LP Music For The Long Emergency, and they've shared the lengthy first taste to mark the announcement.
Lead single "How Is This Happening" was written the day after Donald Trump was elected US President. "We were all just horribly sombre," recalls Poliça's Channy Leaneagh. "That was an example of the truly healing effects of making music with your friends, and while it doesn’t necessarily make things better, it builds community."
The Minneapolis-based synthpop group and Berlin collective have worked together already this year on Bruise Blood: Reimagining Steve Reich's Music For Pieces Of Wood, but this full-length sees both acts working closely on something much personal and politically aware.
"It had a meaning of music being a haven, giving you a ray of hope,” says s t a r g a z e's André de Ridder of the album as a whole. “An alternative reality. And that became a theme of the music too. Quite a lot of the music is a little dark, and it does reflect what has been going on, but also incredible beauty at the same time which we hung onto because we needed to.”
Poliça and s t a r g a z e will play together at London's Oval Space on 27 February 2018.
