Pixies say "door is open" for Kim Deal's return
Ahead of their closing set at Field Day festival this weekend, the Pixies recently spoke to NME, where the topic of conversation gradually made its way onto the subject of Kim Deal.
Long-term bassist and vocalist Deal left the group last year, first replaced by Kim Shattuck and then Paz Lenchantin. But despite their new bass player, the group say that the “door is open” for Deal’s return - if she so changes her mind.
“When Kim left, we wished her well, and we also said she’s welcome back any time,” said the band’s David Lovering. “I have no idea if she will or not. I guess if she did right now, it would be a little tough situation to be in, because we’re so happy with Paz. But it’s open… we have a lot of goodwill.”
In spite of this, Joey Santiago added they’re more than satisfied with Paz for the moment: “If we had to pick a new bass player– if we HAVE to, absolutely– it would be Paz. I would get her vote and there wouldn’t be no other tryouts. It would just be her.”
