Phoenix play surprise show at high school gym in Texas
Phoenix played a surprise gig in an Austin, Texas high school gym on Monday in front of 450 students in the audience who had all had perfect attendances with zero late records.
The show was being filmed for PBS television series Live From The Artists Den and producers picked Anderson High School to be the setting for Phoenix’s 16 song setlist.
As Anderson High School’s gym is very small, principal Donna Houser used a contest so that students could win tickets to the show by maintaining perfect attendances. She couldn’t tell her students who the band would be until one week before the show but she told her students, “If you have perfect attendance and no tardies, there’s going to be a really great prize at the end of this.”
Phoenix played hits such as ’1901′ and ‘Liztomania’ as well as songs from their most recent album Bankrupt!.
