Petition launched to rename a New York street “Beastie Boys Square”
After a Brooklyn park was recently renamed in honour of the late Adam Yauch, a new petition has now been set up urging the New York corner depicted on the cover of the Beastie Boys’ album Paul’s Boutique to named after the group.
The album was originally released back in 1989, with the cover artwork showing the intersection of Ludlow Street and Rivington Street. Fans are now calling for this to be hereby called ”Beastie Boys Square”.
“When Adam Yauch passed away, people came here for three or four days putting candles and flowers out, taking photos, really mourning his death,” local business owner Vicky Dalva told DNAInfo. “At least one person comes in each week asking if it’s Paul’s Boutique”.
Coincidentally, the person behind the plan just happens to be LeRoy McCarthy, who also started a likewise petition in tribute of the Notorious BIG recently.
This new petition will be presented to the local Community Board in January.
