Pete Tong awarded MBE in Queen's New Year's Honours List
British DJ Pete Tong is a surprise addition to the 2014 New Year’s Honours List.
The electronic music veteran, 53, will be awarded a MBE by the Queen for his contributions to the UK clubbing scene.
“It’s great to receive this honour for being a DJ. I’m proud that it acknowledges a profession that I care about a great deal, and one that’s made a huge impact around the world,” he said of the news. ”I’d like to thank all the club promoters in the UK and around the world for their passion and commitment to putting on amazing events and the artists, producers and DJs that have been making and innovating with the music.”
Other musical recipients include Sir Peter Maxwell Davies (Companion of Honour) and Katherine Jenkins (OBE). Elsewhere on the list are the likes of Angela Lansbury, Ruth Jones and Penelope Keith.
The 2014 list features more women (51%) than men for the first time ever.
