Perfume Genius, Sharon Van Etten, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and more cover Grateful Dead
4AD have shared five new tracks - from Perfume Genius, Sharon Van Etten, and more - from their Grateful Dead tribute collection, Day Of The Dead.
Jim James, Charles Bradley, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra also offer up their versions of tracks originally by the Grateful Dead.
The Day Of The Dead collection is curated by The National's Dessner bros., and co-produced with Kaufman. It's out 20 May on 4AD, and profits are being donated to Red Hot, an HIV/AIDs charity. The record is described as "a wide-ranging tribute to the songwriting and experimentalism of the Dead", and took four years to record. The six-hour-long project features over 60 artists and 59 tracks.
Major names on the collection include The Flaming Lips, The War On Drugs, Courtney Barnett, The Tallest Man On Earth, Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks, Shura, This Is The Kit, Kurt Vile, Wilco, ANOHNI, Angel Olsen, Local Natives, Real Estate, Tim Hecker, The Walkmen, and Bill Callahan.
