Paris Saint-Germain football team threaten legal action against M.I.A.
Paris Saint-Germain football team have threatened legal action against M.I.A. following what they deem an "unpleasant surprise" in the artist's "Borders" video.
The song and video sees M.I.A. openly criticise the treatment of refugees during the ongoing crisis in Europe.
As Stereogum note, at one point in the video M.I.A. wears a Paris Saint-Germain football top with the sponsor logo altered: "the 'Fly Emirates' logo [is] replaced by 'Fly Pirates'."
Now the French heavyweights have taken considerable offence, and are threatening legal action against M.I.A.
In the letter, they say:
"We consider that the use of our brand and image in the video clip denouncing the treatment of refugees is a source of discredit to our club and distorts our public communication policy."
They demand that, within 24 hours, M.I.A. remove all traces of the video and "compensate us for the harm we have suffered".
