Orlando Weeks unveils album opener "Milk Breath"
Orlando Weeks is back with "Milk Breath", the opening track from his forthcoming solo album A Quickening.
"Milk Breath" is the third single that Weeks has shared from his new LP, after previous releases "Blood Sugar" and "Safe In Sound".
The former Maccabees vocalist says of his latest outing, "This is about watching my son sleep. When you’ve rocked him for 45 minutes and finally the wriggling has stopped and the muscles have relaxed and you put him down in slow motion and then stand, without breathing for another 20 minutes praying that he’s asleep. A cracked twig in the street below is like a slammed cutlery drawer. A car alarm half a mile away might as well be in the room with you. But your baby is asleep and at peace and slowly you are too."
A Quickening will be Weeks' first new material since releasing The Gritterman score in 2017.
He writes on Twitter of the LP, "I started to make music specifically for this record in early 2018. My partner and I were expecting a baby in the summer of that year and the focus of my work became trying to document that time. That period felt so all-encompassing and yet, at the same time, fleeting and hard to grasp. I found that writing was a way to anchor movements and cement thoughts and feelings that we were sharing."
