Ólafur Arnalds and Nils Frahm to release new 7" tomorrow, tease further collaborations
Ólafur Arnalds and Nils Frahm have announced that they are releasing a surprise collaborative 7" tomorrow (21 August).
The two track release, Life Story Love and Glory (featuring "Life Story" and "Love and Glory"), is set to be released via independent record shops tomorrow by Erased Tapes, with digitally arriving sometime in the near future. Like their 2012 EP Stare (which has recently been reissued), the new single is a "live improv affair on two pianos, also recorded in 2012 at Nils’s Durton Studio in Berlin."
There's a website dedicated to the partnership, though the info on it is pretty minimal. Or is it? Their message of friendship is capped off with a number, 1.9. A date, perhaps. Probably. It seems that Arnalds and Frahm are up to something.
The duo, along with Janus Rasmussen of Kiasmos, recently performed a live impromptu collaboration at Haldern Pop Festival, and it was caught by German TV.
Speaking about the partnership, Frahm says: “We would meet in Reykjavik or Berlin with the intention to share some days off work, hiking, swimming or eating pizza. That is great for a couple days, but after a while we would always end up back in the studio, fiddling with synths or pianos.”
Arnalds added: “You can hear in the beginning of ‘Life Story’ how I have already started playing the piano whilst Nils is still moving microphones around and preparing everything. It was all kept in!“
