off bloom chat about their tour with Dua Lipa and remixing "Be The One"
Danish alt. pop three-piece off bloom join rising British star Dua Lipa on tour this week - we speak to them about their 2017 so far and what to expect from their live show.
Shows with LANY, Clash Magazine's issue launch, and new material in the form of mega-banger "Falcon Eye"... off bloom have already packed a lot into 2017 thus far. In between touring and working on new material for their forthcoming releases, the band are now on the road with Best Fit favourite Dua Lipa and kick off a run of shows tonight in Milan.
We caught up with the band ahead of these shows to see what they'd be up to and what they've got planned for the rest of the year. Yesterday, they shared their rework of Lipa's hit signle "Be The One" transforming it into a mesmering eastern-inspired glitched-out cut that wouldn't sound out of place as the next off bloom release, if Mette was on vocals.
How's 2017 treating you so far?
It's been really cool! We have had so many good experiences already! But also several existential crises, of course!
For people yet to stumble upon you, how would you describe yourselves?
We are three, Alex, Mads, and Mette. We are here to find you, we are here to learn and we are going to take over the world.
Your latest single "Falcon Eye" has a distinctively 'off bloom' sound - how would you describe that sound?
We would describe our sound as like a colliding of worlds. We have always been interested in German Krautrock from the 1970s and then in 2009 we discovered the Glasgow crew LuckyMe, with Hudson Mohawke's "Butter", which completely floored us. Those two vibes combined and smashed together with a beautiful pop melody. We have also always looooved pop, from Bowie to Britney to Rihanna.
You're heading out on tour with Dua Lipa across Europe, are you guys ready?
Soooo ready!
What are your favourite and least favourite things about touring?
Favourite thing is getting to play the music for people. Least favourite thing would be that you always end up eating way too much junk food.
You just dropped a remix of her single "Be The One", what was that process like?
It was fun! "Be The One" is such a different vibe to what we usually do so it was cool to see where we could take it within our world of production. Remixes are a great place to play around and test out new ideas and sounds!
What can we expect from off bloom heading into the summer?
Live gigs! Tracks on tracks on tracks! Got so much new stuff we wanna release! We're going to start wearing bandanas all the time!
