Noname might quit music because she doesn't want to "dance on a stage for white people"
In a series of now-deleted tweets, Noname mentioned that she might step back from music because she doesn't want to "dance on a stage for white people".
Last month, Noname revealed she was planning to release her follow up to Room 25 next year, but it seems that after she releases the album, she might step back from music entirely.
Last Thursday (28 November), Noname wrote in a since-deleted tweet, "To be honest with you, my heart isn’t fully in it anymore. The relationship between 'artist' and 'fan' is really fucking unhealthy. Yall like what y’all like and hate what y’all hate. And I don’t wanna be on either side."
She added, "I’m just tryna read and organize. After factory baby it’s [peace sign emoji]."
The day after (29 November), Noname continued to express her frustration with how her music is being consumed. As XXL notes, in another deleted tweet, Noname shared a picture of actor Morgan Freeman with clown makeup, writing, "My black fans in my mentions talkin bout 'what your mean primarily white? We support the fuck outta u' clearly proving they never been to a show."
A fan soon replied to Noname, writing that "the black demographic that likes your music isn't really the concert going type (speaking from my own perspective) and that's why you see white folks at your shows so much more."
Noname replied in a now-deleted tweet, "That's real. Unfortunately, I'm not going to keep performing for predominately white crowds. I have two shows on the books then after that I'm chilling on making music. If y'all don't wanna leave the crib I feel it. I don't want to dance on a stage for white people."
The Chicago rapper hasn't released new music under her own name since April's "Song 32".
