Noel Gallagher says he “doesn't mind” David Cameron, still fond of New Labour
In a recent interview with the New Statesman, Noel Gallagher has opened up about his political leanings, saying that he “doesn’t mind” Prime Minister David Cameron.
The former Oasis man spoke to the political journal for its latest edition, guest-edited by celeb pal and man-of-the-moment Russell Brand. In it, he insists he has no regret over famously endorsing Tony Blair during the 1990s.
“It was a great time in history,” Gallagher is quoted as saying. “The grip of Thatcherism was being smashed. New Labour had been brilliant in opposition. When Tony Blair spoke, his words seemed to speak to people, young people. Call me naive but I felt something – I’m not quite sure what it was, but I felt it all the same. I do regret that picture at No 10 that night, though . . . I can still smell the cheese!”
However, the singer also seems unafraid to lap praise on Tory counterparts either, naming Winston Churchill as a politician he admires. Of Cameron, Gallagher went on to say: “I don’t mind him, to be honest. No-one actually takes him seriously, do they? All that ‘call me Dave’ gear – hilarious.”
We’re sure Haim would agree.
