No David Bowie tour in 2013, says guitarist
There will be “no Bowie live dates this year” according to Earl Slick the guitarist who played on David Bowie’s 2013 comeback record The Next Day.
60-year old Brooklyn-born Slick was in town last Thursday (20 June) for an interview as part of the annual Meltdown Festival when he made the comment – reported on the Bowie Wonderland forum – which adds further weight and speculation around the prospect of a live comeback, particularly in light of producer Tony Visconti’s claims from back in January.
Previously, Bowie’s wife Iman had hinted at a return to touring while Gerry Lennard, who also played on The Next Day reckoned there was a “50/50 chance” of live shows happening at some point in the future. There has been no statement from the British musical legend yet.
Slick’s appearance at the Yoko Ono-curated festival was tied in to a new book Diary of A Sideman, which details his prolific career and numerous collaborations with Bowie as well as Ono, John Lennon and The Cure’s Robert Smith.
While in town, Slick also visited the Bowie Is… exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum, calling it “f’ing great”.
