Nintendo had to "politely decline" the chance to work with Kanye West
Former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé has revealed he once had to "politely decline" the chance to work with Kanye West on a gaming project.
As Nintendo Life reports, Fils-Aimé has revealed that Kanye West once approached Nintendo to collaborate on a project, leading the former Nintendo of America president to "politely decline" the offer.
The former Nintendo of America president spoke to Kanye West after he approached the Nintendo booth during an E3 show a few years back to speak to Japanese video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto (Mario, The Legend of Zelda).
Fils-Aimé was invited to meet West following the rapper's chat with Miyamoto, and the former Nintendo of America president revealed that "the possibility of doing something with Kanye just wasn’t there" as they had so many projects in development already.
The former Nintendo of Amrica president said during an episode of the Talking Games with Reggie & Harold charity podcast, "Part of it was talking about what he was up to. He was experimenting with a piece of video game content; he wanted reactions to it. He comes out and says, ‘I want to work with Nintendo.’ We had so many different projects at Nintendo going on, the possibility of doing something with Kanye just wasn’t there, and so I had to find a way to politely decline this opportunity to work with him."
Fils-Aimé added, "I told him, ‘Kanye, you don’t want to work with us because we’re tough, we’re hard. All we do is push for the very best content. We would not be the type of partner you would want to work with.’ And he looks at me and says, ‘Reggie, you’re exactly the type of partner I want because of that reason!’ It’s like, ‘Oh my gosh'."
Although Nintendo politely declined the chance to work with Kanye West, ye has kept busy with his 2020 Presidential campaign (which obviously didn't work out), creating operas, a 10-year deal to design clothing for Gap, and on Christmas Day (25 December) his Sunday Service Choir released their surprise EP Emmanuel.
