Nina Simone's granddaughter praises Chloe Bailey's "Feeling Good" performance following criticism
Nina Simone's granddaughter praised Chloe Bailey's performance of "Feeling Good" on ABC's Together We Triumph - A Soul of a Nation Special after Bailey received criticism for it being too racy.
To celebrate Juneteenth, Chloe Bailey of Chloe x Halle performed her interpretation of Nina Simone's "Feeling Good" hit, and shared a heartwarming Twitter interaction with Simone's granddaughter RéAnna Simone Kelly after she defended Bailey's performance.
Bailey's version of the classic received criticism for being too racy, but RéAnna Simone Kelly took to Twitter to let people know that Nina Simone "would’ve done that performance herself".
Kelly wrote, "Everyone’s coming at Chloe Bailey for her performance of my grandmother Nina Simone’s song "Feeling Good". But what y’all don’t understand is that grandma was a free spirited woman herself!! She would’ve loved that performance as much as I do! Relax. Chloe killed it."
In a second tweet, she added, "Grandma was unapologetically herself. She was a muhhhfuckin badass woman who did what she wanted when she wanted. She was a sexual woman and she expressed that. Educate yourselves !! If grandma could she probably would’ve done that performance herself."
