Nils Frahm's Barbican weekender announces line up details
The Barbican's Possibly Colliding - a "marathon weekend curated by Nils Frahm" - has revealed its programming details.
Frahm follows Nico Muhly and The National's Bryce Dessner in curating a weekend for the legendary venue.
Highlights of the newly revealed programme include Nils Frahm & Company - A Most Ambitious Concert, which will be Frahm's only live show in the world this year. It includes "his own material performed solo and in collaboration with some very special guest artists."
Special performances and collaborations from Anna von Hausswolff, Shards, Penguin Cafe, s t a r g a z e, the Britten Sinfonia Voices, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, Canto Ostinato Audio Visual, Luke Abbott’s new project Szun Waves, Ambiq, Nik Bärtsch’s Mobile Extended, Wildbirds & Peacedrums, and much, much more are set for the July weekender. There will also be films and art, including a "spatial installation" from FELD and the world premiere screening of Empty.
Speaking about the events, Frahm says:
"One of the most wonderful things about my job as a composer and musician is that I rarely know what challenge will come next. I have played many festivals and I have always wondered how it would feel to organise one myself. Thanks to the Barbican, I have been given the opportunity to experience the immense fun and the tremendous headaches of doing just that by curating this year’s marathon weekend: Possibly Colliding. The work reminds me of a big puzzle, made of a million tiny parts, and it all has to come together in the end to create the one image that you had in mind. An image of all my musical friends meeting in London to create something unique together. Guided by this image, we have worked for the last year to develop a programme which will entice the listener into a different sphere of existence. Let’s all meet right there, this summer."
The event will run from 1-3 July 2016. Tickets are on sale now from £5.
