Nils Frahm and A Winged Victory For The Sullen to play Mary Anne Hobbs BBC Proms show
Nils Frahm and A Winged Victory For The Sullen will be playing BBC Radio 6 Music's late night Proms this year, hosted by Mary Anne Hobbs.
Frahm and AWVFTS will be performing an exclusive collaboration for one night only. Speaking about the performances, Hobbs said:
"Nils Frahm and A Winged Victory For The Sullen have changed my life, and the lives of so many of my listeners at the BBC. They are completely re-imagining classical music for the next generation, and are building beautiful new bridges into that world. Our Prom is very much the material realisation of a dream for me. The show will have been eleven months in production, and on August 5th we will be staging a new kind of performance at the Royal Albert Hall that the Proms has never before witnessed in its 120 year history.”
Frahm has recently released an album called Solo to celebrate the inaugural Piano Day and raise funds to construct the world's tallest piano. He said of the Proms show:
“Friends and journalists ask me how I feel to be taking part in the Proms since it was founded over a hundred years ago. It feels very flattering and should be a highlight of my musicianship. But let me tell you that this only came through because of the amazing Mary Anne Hobbs. Thank you Mary Anne and everyone at the BBC, and please don’t harm her if I mess it up!”
The Proms celebrate their 120th birthday this year. The 6 Music showcase will take place at the Royal Albert Hall on 5 August.
Tickets go on general sale Saturday 16 May at 9am GMT.
