Nick Cave was writing screenplay for 'Gladiator 2′ film
Nick Cave is the do-it-all eccentric with musician, songwriter, author, screenwriter, composer and actor under his CV and it has recently been discovered that the world came very close to having a sequel to Ridley Scott’s Gladiator written by the Bad Seed himself.
According to the Guardian, big time New Zealand actor Russell Crowe asked Cave to write a script for the sequel even though the main character, the gladiator Maximus (played by Crowe), dies at the end of the film. The Guardian names a blog which once held a synopsis to the film, whether it was true or not it is unclear but according to the blog post, the script says that Maximus is granted eternal life by the Roman gods and spends most of the film trying to reunite with his son, who has joined an army of early Christians. There are some fight scenes thrown in for good measure and of course, Maximus finally reunites with his son, and ultimately lives forever – leading tanks in the second world war and hanging out in the modern-day Pentagon.
Ultimately, the script was rejected by the studio but we can bask in what could have been one of the most ridiculous Hollywood blockbuster sequels of all time.
