Nick Cave shares full version of "Letter to Cynthia"
Nick Cave has uploaded the full version of his "Letter to Cynthia" track that features on his recent "Grief" 7" single to YouTube.
Last month, Nick Cave announced a new 7" single titled "Grief", which was inspired by an interaction he had on his fan Q+A site The Red Hand Files where a fan called Cynthia about whether he felt his late son Arthur was "communicating in some way".
"Grief" featuured the a-side "Letter to Cynthia" - which sees Cave reciting the full response to Cynthia on The Red Hand Files site to music by Warren Ellis - and b-side "Song for Cynthia".
On Saturday (29 May), Cave uploaded the full version of "Letter to Cynthia" on YouTube, after previewing it in last month's Instagram post.
Cave wrote of the track in the description, "In Fall 2018 Cynthia sent this question to The Red Hand Files - I have experienced the death of my father, my sister and my first love in the past few years and feel that I have some communication with them, mostly through dreams. They are helping me. Are you and Susie feeling that your son Arthur is with you and communicating in some way?"
He added, "My reply was the first time I was able to articulate my own contradictory feelings of grief. Letters like Cynthia’s have helped bring me and many others back to the world. I recorded "Letter to Cynthia" and "Song for Cynthia" with Warren in November 2020 at Soundtree Studios in London. They are beautiful pieces and I hope you like them."
Last week Cave and Ellis announced Talk CARNAGE, a streamed conversation that will see the pair answer questions about the album from fans.
