Edinburgh's set to get another new venue in the coming weeks, with Stramash set to inhabit Cowgate's Wilkie House.
FKA Faith and the Sin Club and Lounge, Stramash will open in a converted church following over half a million pound's worth of investment.
The 900-capacity club will be open 7pm-3am with live music every night, and will be operated by Bruce Taverns (The Fiddler’s Arms, The Royal Mile Tavern, The Globe Sports Bar, The Mash House and Whistlebinkies). There will be two floors, three bars, a "large" stage, and the club will also screen major sporting events. The owners say that while most live music will be free, big names - like the already-scheduled Big Country - will be ticketed.
The venue's operations manager Simon Rankin told the Edinburgh News that “we have been inspired by the success of Whistlebinkies but this will be a bigger venue with a bigger budget. The nightclub scene is dying off and people are demanding more live entertainment. The older crowd, particularly, like to spend money on entertainment.”
Stramash will throw open its doors on 17 September, with sets from "teggae band Sea Bass Kid, blues group Safehouse and Irish/Scottish folk group Mad Ferret."
This news follows the announcement that Edinburgh Fringe venue Assembly will become a permanent year-round live music venue rather than a temporary home for events each August.
