New Order reveal that a new album will be released this year
New Order have confirmed to Rolling Stone that they are set to release a new album in 2015, the first without founding bassist Peter Hook, who departed the legendary outfit in 2007.
Speaking to the magazine's Puja Patel, Bernard Sumner and Steve Morris laid out the plans for their next LP. They also confirmed that two new songs were so far complete: "Plastic" and "Restless", which features The Chemical Brothers' Tom Rowlands. Talking about the recording process, Morris and Sumner said:
"We used to just play for hours jamming in the studio and then find a bit - a second - that wasn't bad, and then find another second that could go on top of that. Now we've become a bit more professional in recording, for better or for worse. We're streamlined.
"A lot of people have started using old analog stuff even though it has no memory. I fool around with modular synths because you create a sound by accident. There's a lot of noise, and then you'd stop and see something great. There's something spontaneous about it. You don't really get that anymore."
Patel adds that "Sumner says that fans should expect a heavy electronic sound with melodic guitars and 'an orchestral feel.'"
The band's as-yet-untitled album is expected in Autumn 2015 on Mute.
