New documentary 'Cassette' celebrates the history of the tape
A new documentary charting the history of the humble tape, aptly-entitled simply Cassette, is set to be released shortly, with a trailer being shared online.
The project started back in 2011 as a Kickstarter campaign, developing into a feature-length documentary that takes a look at all things great about the medium. The doc looks to investigate why it is has been a fundamental part in building up the music industry. Whilst many looked towards more convenient methods like the CDR in the 90′s, a small few found hope in exploring the new relevance for the cassette in underground American music.
The documentary has been pieced together by Zack Taylor and Seth Smoot, and features a host of tape lovers and important names from Daniel Johnston and Henry Rollins to Mike Watt and Ian McKaye. The film is said to contain interviews from collectors, musicians, historians and labels.
