Neil Young says he’s “not ready” to play shows yet due to the pandemic
Neil Young has revealed that he's not quite ready to get back to performing live just yet, as he doesn't "think it is safe in the pandemic."
In a recent fan letter shared on his Neil Young Archives site, 21-year-old Tyler wrote about being inspired by Young's music, and how he hoped to see Young live at Farm Aid 2022, but in Young's response, the musician revealed that he's not ready to get back on stage just yet due to the pandemic.
Young wrote, "Thanks Tyler. Much appreciated. I will not be at Farmaid this year. I am not ready for that yet. I don’t think it is safe in the pandemic."
He added, "I miss it very much."
Back in January Young removed his own music from Spotify due to the platform backing Joe Rogan despite him allegedly spreading COVID misinformation, and he also encouraged Spotify employees and musicians to "Get out of that place before it eats up your soul."
Joni Mitchell also decided to "stand" with Neil Young along with Crazy Horse's Nils Lofgren, and after Spotify CEO Daniel Ek said the streaming service is working to add "content advisory" warnings to "any podcast episode that includes a discussion about COVID-19", Young's Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young bandmate Graham Nash followed suit.
Earlier this month Crosby, Stills and Nash's music catalogue returned to Spotify, and Crosby revealed on Twitter, "I don’t own it now and the people who do are in business to make money."
