Neil Young plays protest songs from his porch in latest Fireside Sessions set
Neil Young has released the "Porch Episode" of his Fireside Sessions, and it sees him perform a set of politically-charged songs.
The "Porch Episode" sees Young perform a number of protest songs from across his career, including an updated version of his 2006 song "Lookin' for a Leader".
Young commenced his latest Fireside Sessions performance with "Alabama" and "Campaigner". Far Out Magazine notes that it's the first time Young has played "Campaigner" since 2008.
The musician also played "Ohio", and followed that up with a cover of Bob Dylan's "The Times They Are A-Changin'", which Young hasn't performed since a 1988 guest appearance with Dylan at Berkeley's The Greek Theatre.
For his performance of "lookin' for a Leader", Young updated the pre-Barack Obama lyrics to ones about the upcoming election, "We had Barack Obama and we really need him now / The man who stood behind him now has to take his place somehow / America has a leader building walls around our house / Don’t know Black Lives Matter and we gotta vote him out."
The 33-minute session was directed by Young's wife Daryl Hannah. It also marks the first Fireside Session to be released since Young's 1974 album Homegrown landed last month.
