Naeem announces debut album with Swamp Dogg and Justin Vernon collaboration "Simulation"
Naeem has announced his debut LP Startisha, and has shared lead single "Simulation", which features Swamp Dogg and Bon Iver's Justin Vernon.
"Simulation" is the second track to be shared from Naeem's debut record, after last month's "You and I".
The new single sees the Baltimore-born, LA-based artist collaborate with Justin Vernon of Bon Iver and Swamp Dogg.
Naeem, real name Naeem Juwan, says of the new single, "I had been reading a few books, such as Trickster Makes This World: Mischief, Myth, and Art, and they helped me solidify feelings I’ve had all of my life about surviving a society of institutions that presents fictions as fact, and often use these fictions to diminish my worth, or to convince me to join their gangs. I wrote this song to remind myself, and hopefully everyone that hears it, that nothing is real, and our greatest defense in this life is our own creativity, and finding great faith in whatever sigils and icons we choose to guide us."
Work started on Startisha four years ago when the artist worked with producers Sam Green and Grave Goods in Philadelphia. Following those sessions Juwan retreated to Vernon's home studio in Minneapolis. The album includes contributions from Vernon, Ryan Olson (Gayngs, Poliça), Swamp Dogg, Velvet Negroni, Francis and the Lights, and regular collaborators Amanda Blank and Micah James.
