Nada Surf unveil tender new track "Looking For You"
Nada Surf have dropped their tender new single "Looking For You", the second track to be lifted from their forthcoming album Never Not Together.
"Looking For You" is the second single to be shared from Never Not Together, after last month's lead single "Something I Should Do".
Vocalist and guitarist Matthew Caws says of the new single, ""Looking For You" is about an old idea, that what you seek is seeking you. The Persian poet Rumi wrote it down in the 13th century, but it was new to me when I came across it last year in something I read. I was immediately struck by the idea that whatever I was looking for was out there looking for me too. Maybe if I took a few steps towards it, it would pick up that signal and take a few steps towards me. The image has stayed in my mind ever since, comforting, encouraging and energizing."
Caws adds, "I've found it to be true in practice: so often when I've said yes to an invitation that I was hesitating about for whatever reason, I've been glad afterwards. There's always a great conversation I wouldn't have had, a good idea that wouldn't have come up. This song is also about learning to differentiate between real and imagined danger. One of the best questions I've ever been asked is "how many tigers are lunging at you right now?" Thankfully, the answer has always been none. That line made it into the song too."
Never Not Together is Nada Surf's first album since 2016's You Know Who You Are.
It's their ninth studio album. They recorded it at Rockfield Studios in South Wales. Caws says, "I've been seeing the name on albums for so long. It's a working farm, and the founder/owner, Kingsley Ward, would come in and tell us stories when he wasn't farming. I'd walk into town every morning and listen to the sheep talking as I walked by them."
