MS MR's Lizzy Plapinger unveils debut solo track as LPX
Just over a week ago acclaimed alt. pop duo MS MR announced they'd be taking a hiatus before working on their third album. Nine days later and the MS to Max Hershenow’s MR is going it alone with solo project LPX.
Lizzy Plapinger today launches LPX with loud debut single "Tightrope". Having founded Neon Gold Records with Derek Davies in 2008 and launching MS MR in 2012, alongside her latest gig hosting her own interview series, New Shapes on VEVO, this is the launch of an artist that knows exactly what they're doing.
Of the track and her new direction Plapinger explains: "I'm here to assert myself - harder, louder, and stronger - as a woman and an artist. A force to be reckoned with, wrapped in amplified distortion, emotion and chaos. To create music that rips through your speakers and shakes you to your core, the kind of music that gets into your blood, takes hold and doesn't let go."
Filled with guitars and live instrumentation, the dreamier sounds of MS MR’s material often seem miles away... that is until we hit the middle eight and are whisked away; Plapinger’s voice soars for a moment: "Lately I've had dreams of only you."
"Tightrope" sees Plapinger transform into a punk ("pantone punk" as she refers to it) frontwoman as she almost screams her way through the track. Plapinger is fierce throughout, but the chorus is where she takes no prisoners, blasting through the hook: "I walk the rope / eat my dust and choke / tell myself to / stand up right / can't hold on tight..."
This is the kind of debut that comes along once in a blue moon, bold, brash, and defiant of current trends.
