Moscow17 rapper Incognito killed in London stabbing

Rapper Incognito from the London drill group Moscow17 has been killed in a south London stabbing.

On 1 August 23-year-old Incognito, real name Saddique Kamara, from the London drill group Moscow17, was stabbed and killed in an altercation in Camberwell.

Two others, aged 16 and 31, also suffered injuries in the multiple stabbing attack, and are currently recovering in hospital.

The attack happened on Warham Street in Camberwell, moments away from a shooting that claimed fellow Moscow17 rapper Rhyhiem Ainsworth Barton's life in May earlier this year.

Moscow17's Twitter confirmed the passing of Incognito this morning, asking for "all prayers to be directed to him & his family".

Sky reported that two male suspects aged 18 and 19 are currently in custody.

The leader of the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Richard Leonard, stated, "Another young man has tragically and needlessly lost his life through an act of violence. We are keeping an open mind about the positive motive for this attack, but at this early stage one line of enquiry is this being gang-related."

Drill music has been under scrutiny this year as the Met police linked gang violence to the music genre. Many drill groups have had their music removed from YouTube in the crackdown.

Commissioner of the Met Police Cressida Dick told LBC earlier this year, “Drill music is associated with lyrics which are about glamourising serious violence: murder, stabbings. They describe the stabbings in great detail, joy and excitement. Extreme violence against women is often talked about. Most particularly, in London we have gangs who make drill videos and in those videos, they taunt each other. They say what they’re going to do to each other and specifically what they are going to do to who.”

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has expressed his condolences today on Twitter.
