Morrissey pisses away last remnants of reputation by defending Kevin Spacey and Harvey Weinstein

The perpetually dour artist has told German newspaper Der Spiegel that Spacey had been "attacked unecessarily".

"I think that's ridiculous," Morrissey reportedly says. "As far as I know, he was in a bedroom with a 14 year old. Kevin Spacey was 26 and the boy 14... I'm wondering where the boy's parents were. One wonders if the boy did not know what could happen. I don't know about you, but I've never been in situations like this in my youth. Never. I always knew what could happen. When you are in somebody's bedroom, you have to be aware of where that can lead to. That's why it does not sound very credible to me."

As The AV Club note, the translation probably isn't perfect but the general sentiments are clear enough. After discussing Spacey, Morrissey then doubled down when talking about the actions of Weinstein in the wide-ranging interview, which also tackled Brexit and US politics.

"People know exactly what happens," Morrissey reportedly tells the paper. "And they play along. Afterward, they feel embarrassed, or they do not like it. And then they turn it around and say: 'I was attacked, I was surprised, I was dragged into the room'. But if everything had gone well and had it given them a great career, they would not talk about it. I hate rape. I hate attacks. I hate sexual situations that are forced on someone. But in many cases, one looks at the circumstances and thinks that the person referred to as a victim is merely disappointed."

The BBC report that Morrissey would not be commenting on the situation further.

This is far from the first time that Morrissey has found himself pouring hot excrement onto his legacy - just last month he seemed to voice support for UKIP leadership candidate Anne Marie Waters, and there's even a section dedicated to 'racism controversies' on Wikipedia. As well as that, just this year he's made a ridiculous statement about the Manchester terrorist attack and drawn criticism for attempting to sell an offensive piece of merch featuring civil rights activist and author James Baldwin.
