Morrissey denies trying to shut down a Smiths/Charlie Brown mash-up blog
Currently prepping a undoubtedly juicy autobiography for release, you’d think that Morrissey was too busy to petition to get a Tumblr taken down. And it looks like you’d be right.
A few months back, we reported on This Charming Charlie, a Tumblr that combines some of Morrissey’s lyrics with Charles Schultz’s iconic cartoon, Peanuts. Later, it looked like Moz’s label, Universal Music Group were trying to shut down the blog, presumably for copyright infringement, lobbying the micro-blogging site to remove some of the Charlie Brown/Smiths mash-up comics.
But now it seems as if Morrissey has stepped in to save the light-hearted venture. A post on fansite, True To You, reads:
“Morrissey would like to stress that he has not been consulted over any takedown request to remove the Tumblr blog named ‘This Charming Charlie’.
Morrissey is represented by Warner-Chappell Publishing, and not Universal Music Publishing, (who have allegedly demanded that the lyrics be removed).
Morrissey is delighted and flattered by the Peanuts comic strip with its use of Morrissey-Smiths lyrics, and he hopes that the strips remain.”
