MGMT's Andrew VanWyngarden unveils new Gentle Dom track "I Miss Dancing In New York"
Gentle Dom, aka Andrew VanWyngarden of MGMT, has uploaded his first track of 2021 to SoundCloud, titled "I Miss Dancing In New York".
VanWyngarden has been using the Gentle Dom alias on SoundCloud to share mixes over the past five years, but only properly emerged as Gentle Dom when VanWyngarden appeared on Soccer Mommy's Soccer Mommy & Friends Singles Series last year with a remix of her "circle the drain" song.
Over the weekend a new Gentle Dom track appeared on his SoundCloud, marking his first release of 2021, aptly titled "I Miss Dancing In New York".
The track title is likely a response to the coronavirus pandemic and the restrictions imposed on activities such as live music and clubbing.
VanWyngarden was one of the first musicians to release a snippet of a song about COVID-19 at the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020 (which has since been taken down). He launched his new DJ COVID-19 alias, and called the track "Oh No Corona", which saw him sing, "Oh No Corona / Please, don't kill me and my family."
MGMT are yet to follow up their 2018 album Little Dark Age. Their latest outing was March 2020's "As You Move Through The World".
