MGMT to release new album in June
MGMT have announced that their upcoming new album will come out this summer.
The band, who last released an album in 2010 in the form of Congratulations, started work on the release back in March 2012.
Speaking to Rolling Stone recently, however, the electronic pair say it’s set for a June due date.
The album, tentatively self-titled, is said to have a “synth-heavy” sound, with “weird… spacey, rhythmic music”.
The band told the magazine that they feel more mature as a band:
“People thought we took too many drugs, which was not the case at all. We were less naive after Congratulations.”
Adding a bit on what direction the record should take:
“We’re not trying to make music that everyone understands the first time they hear it. There’s no illusion on part that we’re going to turn into a Top 40 band. That’s kind of comforting.”
