Mew have pulled the trigger on the new video for "Satellites", the lead single from upcoming LP +-.
The clip premiered on The FADER, and the Mew gave them an explanation of their intentions:
"For this, our first video for the new album + -, we wanted the whole thing to have a kind of celebratory feel to it. With our original bass player back in our gang, it shows the band doing what we do, playing together. It was shot in Copenhagen, in one of the oldest film studios in the world by Danish Director, Casper Balslev, who captured our performance and did a beautiful job with an amazing team. The video features a new light installation from German designers, Elektropastete, which we'll be taking on tour with us in 2015."
""Satellites" is a song we made, about how big life is, I guess, and how you get to choose how to live it. Even if people don't approve, it belongs to you. We wanted to make the video a celebratory video, because it's our first new song in moons, and our long lost comrade is back in the gang. It's a colorful and grand thing, filmed in one day, and it's just the 4 of us playing our song that we made, about how big life is."
+- will be released 27 April via Play It Again Sam; "Satellites" is released 9 March separately. It's been recorded in Copenhagen, with Michael Beinhorn and Mew on production duties and longtime collaborator Rich Costey mixing.
The LP also features a collaboration with Bloc Party guitarist Russell Lissack: "My Complications" is a song that they "co-wrote which came to fruition having met on a US tour some years ago."
The band are also set to embark upon a May European tour, including three UK dates in London, Manchester and Glasgow. Tickets are on sale now.
