Metz’s Alex Edkins shares new Weird Nightmare single "Lusitania"
Alex Edkins of Metz has unveiled a second single from his debut self-titled Weird Nightmare album titled "Lusitania".
Edkins launched his Weird Nightmare project at the start of the month with debut single "Searching for You", and today (30 March) he's returned with a second cut from the record titled "Lusitania", which arrives with a Colin Medley-directed video.
""Lusitania" was a big breakthrough for the entire Weird Nightmare album," Edkins explains. "I realised that, musically, my goal was to make songs that would make people feel good! This idea of waking up from a terrible dream or winter changing into spring. Momentary relief. We all need that feeling right now and music has always been what I turn to most."
Much of the Weird Nightmare album was recorded during the pandemic, but some of the original demos of the tracks date back to 2013.
Edkins said of the record, "I had always planned on finishing these songs, but being unable to tour with METZ, and forced to lock down, really gave me a push. It was a godsend for me. The hours would disappear and I would get lost in the music and record. It was a beautiful escape."
He added, "I’ve found a new confidence in my writing and producing. I really enjoy creating and recording, and I wanted this record to reflect how much fun I was having."
The Weird Nightmare album will feature contributions from Chad VanGaalen and Bully's Alicia Bognanno.
